Take a gander at this wonderful series from the UK called “Clangers” I recently discovered on an equally wonderful blog from Mark McGuinness called Wishful Thinking and geared to inspiring creative professionals. Using these clever little language-less creatures as an example of how leaving things out of creative projects injects delightful space for imagination, McGuiness discusses how the creator of the Clangers wrote dialogue for the series, then inserted the signature whistles and inflections that made these characters so expressive without words. The results are remarkable. Definitely has me wondering how can I can incorporate this principle into my creative endeavors. How about you, what omissions will make your work richer in imagination?
