I had to smile at this one. Here’s a trailer touting a book about shedding the herd mentality, yet the video was hauntingly familiar to me. Then I made the connection. It’s almost exactly the same as a viral video that has made the rounds in a number of incarnations the past few years.
Pretty hard to take advice about being “different” when the author’s marketing campaign is distinctly NOT. Were they purposely making a point by repeating something just familiar enough to hook me? Hard to tell, since marketing is all about repetition and recognition. For those who catch the similarity, the irony is pronounced. Which begs the question–can you PLAN to stand out from the crowd by being different or does it just happen when you truly follow your muse?
